How a URL is structured affects the way search engines wil rank the website. They want to reward sites that provide great experiences for visitors. To make sure people can find the information they need within 1 or 2 clicks, you’ll want to streamline the website’s URL structure.

Instructions
When we first set up the campaign, we focus on optimizing the URL structure for the targeted web pages. Once we are in the management phase, URLs can be updated for the other pages as time permits.
- Optimize the website’s directory paths and files names so they can be searched and indexed by search engines.
- Limit the number of directory levels from domain to file. Only link to the most important pages, and from there, link to the other pages deeper in the site.
- Change all dynamic URLs to static URLs
- Use descriptive URLs and separate URL keywords with no more than 2-3 hyphens
- Specify the language code in the URL e.g. mywebsite.com/fr/mycontent.html
- Use 301 redirects if renaming pages
- Create an HTML sitemap
